PTO ANNOUNCEMENTS
Need a cool job?

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6th-10th and we are looking for 2 more helpers to coordinate the following: coordinate Anna’s Taqueria lunch (pickup and deliver to WMS) to celebrate our 212 hard working WMS staff members, and help the kids write short thank you notes during the lunch blocks (one afternoon of your choosing, in the alcove outside the cafeteria). All costs are fully covered by your PTO donations and we are very grateful. If this sounds like something you might be interested in, please email Katie and Annie at wmsptoinfo@gmail.com for more details. Thank you to everyone who has responded so far!

WMS CARES REPORT: Families Helping Families

Thanks to the generosity and support of our amazing WMS community, WMS Cares raised $1,400 last week to provide a dozen of our WMS families with much-needed assistance. Your donations will be used to purchase $600 in Stop & Shop gift cards, $400 in Mobil gift cards, and $400 in Walmart gift cards this week. The gifts will help provide basic necessities for families working with our dedicated WMS social worker, Shelby Derissaint. Thank you for supporting our incredible school community!

If you have any questions or would like to volunteer with WMS Cares, please reach out to wmscares21@gmail.com. We are currently looking for a Co-Chair to help Carol Tham if you would like to join the team next fall?

PTO REMINDERS
Grade 6: Reading Rally IS STILL ON!

We are one week into the 2-week 6th grade Reading Rally.  At this time, participating 6th graders should be reading as much as possible!  They have one more week to read, through Monday, April 8.  After that, participants may collect donations, either by asking sponsors to donate directly online to offtherocksrescue.org/donate/ or by writing a check to Off the Rocks Rescue and sending it into school where HR 323 will collect in Advisories. Students can see this info on their sponsor sheets. Thank you for your support

For two weeks, March 25th to April 8th, participants will read as much as they can. At the end of the two weeks of the Reading Rally, participants will collect their donations, and there will be a pizza and dessert party for everyone who took part.

Off the Rocks Rescue flies cats here from Saint Thomas, USVI because in 2021 there was a major hurricane that left the island in ruin. Since it is a small local shelter, donations will make a huge difference. We hope all 6th graders will participate!

Memorial Day Assembly Speaker

The search is on for an engaging speaker to address the students at the annual Memorial Day assembly coming up this spring. If you know a local veteran or member of the armed services who might like to share their story with the students, please reach out to us at wmsptoinfo@gmail.com.

COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS
PAC Monthly Coffee

Join us this Thursday, April 4th from 9-10:30am for our monthly PAC coffee. The coffee will be at the home of Christine Mizzi at 16 Suffolk Road. The Parent Advisory Council (PAC) supports families in town who have children (PAWS through WHS) that are receiving special education services from the district.

Please feel free to bring a friend or forward to someone that you think may benefit from meeting others within the PAC community.

Support Wellesley marathon runners!

Marathon Monday is coming soon! Best of luck to the following charity runners who are either members of the Wellesley Public Schools faculty and staff or community members running on behalf of WPS partners. They include:

Carolyn Livingstone, Hunnewell kindergarten teacher, on behalf of Wellesley’s War Memorial Scholarship Fund; Julia MacBlane, Schofield teaching assistant, also on behalf of Wellesley’s War Memorial Scholarship Fund; Glen Magpiong, WHS varsity girls basketball coach, on behalf of Wellesley’s A Better Chance (ABC); Sara Sullivan, Hunnewell psychologist, on behalf of the Wellesley Scholarship Foundation; Nezha Mediouni Bower, on behalf of the Wellesley Community Children's Center; Jayne Kim on behalf of Friends of Wellesley METCO; and Melissa Martin, on behalf of the Wellesley Education Foundation.

Get on the Bus!

With lower fees and the upcoming elementary redistricting, now is the perfect time to sign up for the bus! Wellesley Public Schools has reduced fees to $300/student with a $700 family cap for 2024-25, with more cuts planned for future years. Parents, reduce the amount of time you spend in traffic and help the town reach its goals of reducing carbon emissions! Current families MUST register by April 5. Visit wellesleyps.org/transportation to read the annual letter and pay fees online.

Girls on the Run

We have established a GIRLS ON THE RUN TEAM for girls in the 6th through 8th grade!

This is a program that empowers girls through running, small group discussions, and team camaraderie!

Check out the website for more information about this program.
