PTO ANNOUNCEMENTS
From Kate Mahoney, Department Head of School Counseling

Parents/Guardians: If you know that your student will not be returning to WMS in the fall due to a move or private school acceptance, please follow these instructions for the Online Withdrawal Form.

Need a fun job?

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6th-10th and we are looking for 5 helpers to coordinate the following: order Anna’s Taqueria lunch to celebrate our 170 hard working WMS staff members, help kids write short thank you notes during a couple lunch blocks, and plan some gestures of gratitude like coffee and treats for the Faculty Dining Room/FDR. If this sounds like something you might be interested in working on, please email Katie and Annie at wmsptoinfo@gmail.com for more details.

WMS CARES: Families Helping Families

Now more than ever, we need help from our WMS community. These unprecedented times have severely impacted food security and access to basic necessities for some of our WMS students and their families.

WMS Cares is a PTO Committee focused on assisting and supporting WMS families in need of help. We work closely with our WMS social worker (Shelby Derissaint) to determine urgent needs for our most vulnerable families. Our committee raises funds specifically to help provide supermarket gift cards, gas, and other basic necessities for dozens of struggling WMS families.

WMS Cares relies on parents like yourself to lend a hand or donate funds for our families in need. Our WMS Cares committee members have kindly donated $400 in March, but we are still $1,600 short of our goal to provide sufficient support through June.

Please consider supporting our WMS students and their families that have requested assistance by doing one of the following:

1) Donate via Venmo to @Carol-Tham (last four digits of phone number is 8083).  Please specify "WMS Cares" under "What's this for?".

2) Donate by writing a check payable to "Carol Tham" (specify "WMS Cares" on the memo line) and dropping off the check in an envelope addressed to: Shelby Derissaint, WMS Social Worker - OR -

3) Purchase gift cards from either Stop & Shop, Mobil and/or Walmart and drop them off to the Main Office in an envelope addressed to: Shelby Derissaint

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us at wmscares21@gmail.com. Thank you for supporting our WMS community of caregivers.

Memorial Day Assembly Speaker

We are looking for an engaging speaker at the annual Memorial Day assembly for students. If you know a local veteran who might like to speak and share their story, please reach out to us at wmsptoinfo@gmail.com.

Yearbook Orders: Due April 5th

Don’t forget to order your WMS yearbook at CoffeePond.com. Go to “Order Online” and “Yearbooks”, then enter the password “Raiders”. Yearbooks are $33 and the final day to order is April 5th.

Grade 6: Reading Rally

The Grade 6 Reading Rally starts Monday with the help of Ms. Kenerson and Advisory 323. All Grade 6 students were provided with a sponsor sheet in advisory this week which includes more details.

This year we are donating to Off the Rocks Rescue, a local cat rescue. Participating 6th graders will call relatives, friends and anyone else who would like to sponsor them. The sponsors can donate per book, per page or with a flat donation.

For two weeks, March 25th to April 8th, participants will read as much as they can. At the end of the two weeks of the Reading Rally, participants will collect their donations, and there will be a pizza and dessert party for everyone who took part.

Off the Rocks Rescue flies cats here from Saint Thomas, USVI because in 2021 there was a major hurricane that left the island in ruin. Since it is a small local shelter, donations will make a huge difference. We hope all 6th graders will participate!
