Thanks to everyone that attended our first zoom call for 8th grade end-of-year event planning! Our next meeting will be Monday, April 8th @7:30pm via Zoom.

If you were unable to attend but would like to volunteer, please email 8th Grade co-chair, Sharon-Clarke-Levin at sharon@perfectcurve.com to indicate what you are interested in helping with. We are looking for volunteers to assist with Community Service Day, the 8th Grade Dance, Luncheon/Ice Cream Social, and the Moving Up Ceremony.

To make all these things possible and fund activities like the Boston Scavenger Hunt and the Class Gift, please make your student’s 8th grade donation of $75 to the WMS PTO PayPal account or mail a check to:

Thank you to everyone who has donated to the effort so far!

Grade 6: Reading Rally

Dear Parents,

We are excited to share that the Grade 6 Reading Rally is happening once again. This year we are donating to Off the Rocks Rescue, a local cat rescue. Participating 6th graders will call relatives, friends and anyone else who would like to sponsor them. The sponsors can donate per book, per page or with a flat donation.

For two weeks, March 18 to April 1st, participants will read as much as they can. At the end of the two weeks of the Reading Rally, participants will collect their donations, and there will be a pizza and dessert party for everyone who took part.

Off the Rocks Rescue flies cats here from Saint Thomas, USVI because in 2021 there was a major hurricane that left the island in ruin. Since it is a small local shelter, donations will make a huge difference.

We will introduce the Reading Rally to all 6th graders next week and distribute all the information they will need to participate. Stay tuned for details. Please encourage your 6th grader to take part in the Reading Rally. We hope all 6th graders will participate!

Thank you,

Advisory 323

Yearbook Orders: Due April 5th

Sport Physicals: Due in the WMS Nurse’s Office by March 25th

All student-athletes are required to have a current physical examination on file in the Health Office before a student can try-out, practice, or participate in a sport as required by the MIAA guidelines. The Athletic Office and/or individual coaches will not accept physical examination reports sent directly.

To check your student’s physical examination status, please sign into your PowerSchool account, find the SNAP Health Portal, and click on the “Screening” tab. If your student has a current physical examination on file (within the past 13 months) in the nurse’s office and it is NOT due to expire, you do not need to provide another copy. Physical exams are valid for 13 months to the date.

If your student’s physical exam expires during the sports season, your student will no longer be able to participate until a new physical examination has been obtained and is on file in the nurse’s office. Updated physical forms can be uploaded through the SNAP Health Portal.

Questions? Please contact the WMS Nurses' Office.

Composting Helpers: Sign Up Here

Calling All Parents/Guardians: We are looking for a volunteer during 6th grade lunch (11:20am-12:00pm) to stand by the composting station and help kids dispose of their trash properly. We are finding that having a parent stand by the bins increases compliance. That's really all there is to it!

Our diligent composting club students help out if something lands in the wrong bin by using some super cool grabbers, and the PTO just provided a fresh set. Help us stay green at WMS and check out the SIGN UP HERE!

Sign in at the front office and Mr. Rabinowitz will meet you to show you around. Please check with Patty Chong in the main office to make sure you have a CORI form on file.

Wellesley A Better Chance is Seeking Volunteers!

For more than 50 years, Wellesley ABC has provided academically talented and promising young women of color A Better Chance of educational preparedness through enrollment at Wellesley High School. ABC scholars live in a family-style home with tutoring, meals, medical and social/emotional support. The program cannot function without an army of volunteers; we need your help!

Volunteer roles range in time commitment and involvement; there is something for everyone. We are currently seeking both board and non-board positions, including a treasurer, drivers, and more.

Please email office@wellesleyabc.org for more information about how to get involved with this great and fun organization!

“I’m grateful for what my Wellesley A Better Chance experience offered me… a chance to grow, to learn, and to become the person I am today.” – a 1988 Wellesley ABC alumna

WGS Green Tip of the Month
What if there was one thing you could do for your kids that would reduce stress and fatigue, promote creativity, teach responsibility and increase focus? And what if that one thing was right outside your front door? With Spring approaching, it's time to get outdoors! Time spent in nature is good for our kids!

Check out this article: Why Kids Need to Spend Time in Nature - Child Mind Institute. With electronics seemingly taking control of our kids' free time, mental health experts remind us of the importance and value of staying in touch with nature; our kids' health and happiness may depend on it.
WHS Robotics Team

The WPS community is cordially invited to watch the Wellesley High School Robotics Team compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) as Team Ultraviolet #8567on March 23rd and 24th. This competition is the culmination of months of work put into building their robot, and it is an exciting event for all ages, especially kids who are interested in STEM. It’s a preview of the enormous fun they can expect with high school’s STEM programs.

NE District Greater Boston Event 2024
When: Saturday, March 23rd & Sunday, March 24th
Where: Revere High School (101 School St) Revere, MA

Details: There are 38 teams competing at this event. It's free and open to the public to watch. The qualification matches will start at 11am and run all through the day till 7pm on Saturday March 23rd. On Sunday March 24th, there will be additional qualification matches in the morning (10am-12pm), and playoffs and award ceremonies in the afternoon(1pm-4pm).

FIRST Robotics Competition is the ultimate sport for the mind. Under strict rules and limited time and resources, teams of high school students are challenged to build industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game in alliance with other teams, while also fundraising to meet their goals, designing a team “brand,” and advancing respect and appreciation for STEM within the local community.
