Week of 1/15 - 1/19

Hello everyone! We hope you are enjoying your long weekend for Martin Luther King Day. There is NO SCHOOL MONDAY. World of Wellesley has some events happening on Monday. If you are looking for something fun and meaningful to do please see below.

The weather is getting colder out and if your student would like a locker to store a coat they may ask their Advisory Teacher. Locks can be obtained from the Main Office at WMS or be brought from home. Lockers are generally assigned near the student's advisory classroom.

PTO ANNOUNCEMENTS
Composting Helpers Needed

We are looking for a few parents/caregivers to join the lunch blocks from 11:20-1:00pm and stand by the composting stations to help kids dispose of their trash properly. We are finding that having a parent stand by the bins increases compliance. That's really all there is to it! Check out the sign up here!

World of Wellesley MLK, Jr Breakfast & Family Celebration

The World of Wellesley will hold its Twenty-Fourth Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast and Family Celebration on Monday, January 15, 2024 at Wellesley College. We hope you will join us in celebrating Martin Luther King Day with a unique program that delves beyond the familiar narrative, shedding light on the lesser-known facets of MLK's impactful legacy.

This inspiring event is proudly led by The World of Wellesley, a non-profit educational organization dedicated to making Wellesley a welcoming place and committed to community empowerment through initiatives focused on diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, accountability, justice, and anti-racism.

We are proud to have Dr. Jennifer Yanco, a racial justice educator-activist, scholar, and author as this year’s keynote speaker. Dr. Yanco’s book Misremembering Dr. King: Revisiting the Legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. invites us to reconsider how Dr. King is remembered and to revisit the radicalism of his work and legacy. Copies of her book will be available for purchase.

The program consists of two parts, a ticketed breakfast and discussion from 8 AM to 10:30 AM followed by a family program with free admission from 10:30 AM to 12 PM. The family program will feature interactive MLK-themed activities for children and all ages are welcome.

Please click here to purchase tickets. For each purchase made, a percentage of available seats will be reserved for community members who qualify for financial assistance. Community members with financial constraints, please email WOW at info@worldofwellesley.org. For more information about the program goto: WOW.org.

We hope you will consider purchasing a table or seats and help us bring these impactful programs to our community. For more information on either of the Martin Luther King celebrations, email info@worldofwellesley.org

WGS Green Tip of the Month

Have the holidays left you bursting at the seams with more "stuff' than you need?  With the RDF Take It Or Leave It closed for the season, it can be hard to find a home for items you no longer need but are too good to send a landfill.  Consider posting items on Wellesley Facebook sites Buy Nothing Wellesley and Wellesley Give & Take or Greater Boston Suburbs Give & Take which encompasses nearby suburbs.  The State of MA also has a list of organizations that will take furniture, building materials, and much more and some will even pick up! Thank you for making the effort divert items from the landfill!
